Looking for Actors, Designers, Stage Manager
for HartBeat's new bilingual play Pegao.

LOOKING TO CAST…

All actors MUST be bilingual - English and Spanish. Equity and Non-Equity contracts available.

 

ABOUT THE PLAY...

Named for the crispy rice at the bottom of the pot that must be sacrificed to produce the rest of the rice, Pegao centers on a high-stakes domino game in the eastern Puerto Rican city of Carolina in the late 70s. There is a grandmother trying to pass on the skill of dominoes to a younger generation while her granddaughter finds her power in strategizing in the game of life.  This is a premiere of a new play.

 

ABOUT THE PROCESS...

This rehearsal process will be and based in script analysis, character relationship, and emotional arc. There may be some minor script changes during the process.  Actors will be expected to make strong choices, be generous, and meet deadlines given.

 

Rehearsals will begin the end of April 2019. Rehearsals are 20 hours a week, with weekday and weekend rehearsals possible. Final schedule determined based on actor’s availability.

 

Pegao runs May 30 – June 2 and June 6-8, 2019, Thu/Fri/Sat/ at 7:30pm at the Carriage House Theater, 360 Farmington Avenue, Hartford.  Travel and housing available.

LOOKING FOR STAGE MANAGER 

POSITION SUMMARY: HartBeat Ensemble is seeking an experienced Stage Manager for it’s new original bilingual performance work, titled Pegao. The Stage Manager is responsible for running all aspects of the rehearsal and performance process of a production. Successful candidates will be highly collaborative, proactive problem solvers who are able to inspire actors, technical crew, designers, and director while multitasking within a busy work environment. Must be comfortable running rehearsals and giving rehearsal and performance notes.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Serve as main point of contact, ensuring efficient and effective communication, to reach a common understanding for shared artistic goals

  • Maintain a positive, safe, and smooth running rehearsal room and backstage environment

  • Schedule and run all rehearsals, requisite calling of all performances; produce and distribute daily rehearsal and performance reports for all technical staff and senior management

  • Maintain and update the production play script, including keeping track of  all changes to dialogue, blocking notes and cues; costume, prop and set piece lists.

  • Post-Production completion and archiving of production script.

 

CORE COMPETENCIES:

  • Demonstrated planning, time management and organizational skills

  • Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy in typing, proofing, and creating appropriate show paperwork

  • General knowledge of lighting, scenery, property, costume and sound design

 

OTHER ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Must be fluent in Spanish, interpreting and reading

  • Other duties as assigned by the Production Manager and Director

 

SCHEDULE:

Rehearsals will begin at the end of April 2019. Rehearsals are 3-4 times a week (20 hours), with weekday and weekend rehearsals. Final schedule determined upon actor availability.

LOOKING FOR DESIGNERS

Sound Designer    

Job responsibilities include

  • Design and production of soundscape in QLab

  • Excellent communication with artistic and technical teams

  • Ability to work within budgetary constraints

  • Participation in production meetings

  • In residence for tech process in late May 2019

Set and Prop Designer 

 

Job responsibilities include

  • Design since set and props  to fit our 77-set theater

  • Production of  plans and drawings for set and props

  • Excellent communication with artistic and technical teams

  • Ability to work within budgetary constraints

  • Participation in production meetings

  • In residence from designer run through first preview in late May 2019

 

Costume Designer 

 

Job responsibilities include

  • Design for four character show.

  • Production of  sketches

  • Excellent communication with artistic and technical teams

  • Ability to work within budgetary constraints

  • Participation in production meetings

  • In residence for tech process in late May 2019

 

Union and non-union contracts available.  Housing available. Latinx and bilingual designers are strongly encouraged to apply.
